What is Mind Relaxation?

Most relaxation is good for you, but not all relaxation is relaxing. People go on holidays to ‘relax’ and in some cases experience quite the opposite!

Mind relaxation is a unique type of relaxation, it is where we allow our racing thoughts and mind-chatter to settle. When we relax our mind effectively, we experience what is known as the Relaxation Response. The Relaxation Response releases hormones into the bloodstream that helps to lower our: blood pressure, breathing rate and heart rate (all the things that the Stress Response raises). The relaxation response is opposite to, and provides a direct balance for the Stress Response. Not only does regular eliciting of the Relaxation Response help us to manage stress, but it also:

  • Boosts our immune system
  • Boosts our energy levels
  • Increases memory clarity & retention
  • Increases our productivity
  • Improves our focus
  • Makes us feel calmer and more in control
  • Helps us think creatively

The Relaxation Response was coined and researched by Dr Herbert Benson, an esteemed Harvard cardiologist who is a pioneer in the area of Mind and Body Science. His findings are backed by years of scientific studies and published research.
